Most of us, don’t even know about the pH level of skin and how pH variation affects our skin. As per dermatologists, our skin requires to maintain a balance at slightly acidic range for optimal health of skin. The perfect range of pH level for skin is 4 to 5.5 which is slightly acidic in nature; at this level skin is able to stop the growth of bacteria’s. When the variation occurs in pH level of skin, it may cause skin problems such as acne, wrinkles and signs of premature aging. Balancing the body’s pH levels internally and maintaining skin’s external pH requirements will keep skin healthy and naturally glowing. The pH level of skin is internally maintained by the secretion of sweat and sebum (oil from sebaceous glands) or the breakdown of fatty acid by beneficial microflora.

To maintain the pH balance of skin you can try Ayurvedic products or natural herbs that are used from centuries. Herbs like Aloe vera, Ocimum sanctum, curcuma longa, glycyrrhiza glabra, cucumber, citrus lemon, pyrus malus are used from centuries to maintain the protective layer over the skin. These herbs also help to remove the dead skin cells, bacterial growth and maintain the balance production of sebum on skin surface naturally. These natural products are cost efficient and environment friendly.

You can check your skin pH by using pH testing strips. These strips are easily available in drug stores. You can easily read your pH level by comparing strip with given pH scale. You can also check beauty products Ph with these strips.

Follow these steps to maintain your skin pH range under 4-5.5:

1). Avoid shampoos, soaps and cleanser: Avoid the use of shampoos, soaps and cleanser that have high pH range. Most of the cleansing products have pH range more than 8 which is more alkaline and harm the acidic mantle of skin. Use Natural products which are formulated by using herbs. You can use cucumber herbal face wash along with Roop Mantra cream which helps to maintain the acidic mantle of skin.

2). Test the products: Before using any shampoos and bar, check its Ph level. If pH level is not described on packaging, you can check it by using litmus paper. Use of natural products is helpful to maintain the pH level of skin.

3). Acidic apple cider vinegar: slightly acidic apple cider vinegar is helpful to maintain the pH level of skin. You can rinse your body with apple cider vinegar after bath or washing your skin.

4). Lemon: You can try lemon to maintain the pH level of skin. It is easiest and cheapest way to maintain the pH level of skin at home. You can make your own lemon toner, by adding a teaspoon of lemon juice in ½ cup of water. Mix it and apply on skin. This mixture helps to nourish and balance the pH level of skin.
