Blackheads are small bumps which appear due to clogging of skin pores with dead skin cells and excess oil. Factors like high-level pollution and dust around us, the stress of a hectic lifestyle, and harmful chemicals in the products like face cream, soaps etc. contribute to the appearance of blackheads.

They are a mild type of acne that generally appears on the face, often where they are most noticeable, such as on or around the nose. But they can also occur on the chest, back, neck, arms, and shoulders most commonly in teens.

Squeezing them out is not the best idea as it further can lead to inflamed skin, and eventually, scarring. Here are a few home remedies to get rid of blackheads and prevent them all together using simple ingredients lying around your home.

Honey :

Honey has been used as a medicine since centuries. It has multiple benefits and the antibacterial properties of it are helpful in treating blackheads. Combining honey with lemon juice and sugar work as an excellent exfoliator and brighten your skin tone.


How to use Honey for Removing Blackheads?

Mix one tablespoon each of raw honey, lemon juice and sugar and rub the scrub on your skin in a gentle manner. Let it stay for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water. Don’t forget to apply a skin care cream to keep your skin moisturized.

Coconut Oil :

Coconut oil consists of lauric acid, a tested microbial agent which works really well to get rid of blackheads. In addition, it also nourishes the skin and helps in quick and easy elimination of dead skin cells.


What do you have to do?

Pour a few drops of organic virgin coconut oil and massage the affected areas with it. Leave it on so that it gets naturally absorbed into the skin.

Lemon Juice :

Lemon juice is a rich source of citric acid and works as a natural astringent to remove dead skin. Along with this, lemon juice is rich in vitamin C, an antioxidant that stimulates collagen production to improve skin health.


How to Use Lemon Juice for Clearing Blackheads?

First of all, wash your face with the best skin cleanser and squeeze out some fresh lemon juice in a bowl. Then dip a cotton ball in the juice and dab it on the blackheads. Wait for 10 minutes and once it gets dry wash with cool water.

Tomatoes :

Tomatoes are enriched with natural antibacterial properties that dry up blackheads. They also contain lycopene which gives strong antioxidant effects on the skin.


What do you have to do?

Peel a fresh tomato and mash it, apply it over the blackheads before going to bed. Let it stay overnight and then wash with lukewarm water the next morning. After cleaning your face, moisturize your skin with an herbal face cream.

Steaming Your Face :

The hotness of the steam is helpful in opening up the clogged skin pores. After doing this, you can easily scrub off the blackheads and whiteheads with the help of an exfoliator. Moreover, face steaming also removes toxins and improve circulation.

How to do this?

Pour hot water into the tub and cover your head with a towel so that no steam can escape out. Then, steam your face for 1-2 minutes and repeat it three to four times. This remedy is suitable for all types of skin.

Apple Cider Vinegar :

This multipurpose and potent solution can be used to treat a number of skin issues. The antibacterial properties kill all the harmful bacteria present on the skin which in turn clean out the pores and lessen blackheads.


How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar for Removing Blackheads?

Take a few drops of apple cider vinegar and with the help of cotton ball apply it on your face and let it dry. Later rinse your face with lukewarm water and apply a layer of best skin cream.

Yogurt :

Yogurt is really effective in riding you of those nasty blackheads and whiteheads. In addition, it acts as a natural moisturizer and does not let the skin dry.


How to Use Yogurt for Blackheads?

Take one tablespoon each of yogurt and lemon juice and half tablespoon salt and mix all these well. Put this mixture on the affected area and massage in a gentle circular motion. After keeping it for 10-12 minutes, rinse with lukewarm water.

Summary: – Blackheads are small, reddish-brown or black bumps which result due to clogged skin pores. Instead of squeezing them, using natural ingredients like honey, coconut oil, lemon juice, tomatoes, apple cider vinegar, and yogurt is better.
